Federal IT Career Workshop

Federal IT Career Workshop

Tuesday, February 22, 2022 (10:00 AM - 1:00 PM) (EST)

Description

Opening Doors to Careers in Government

The Federal government is the largest employer in the world with a workforce of more than 2 million strong, dedicated to improving the lives of the American people. The talent recruitment effort is ongoing year to year; in 2020, USAJOBS.gov hosted more than 330,000 job announcements.

As a student, you may wonder if a career in government is for you. Questions about how to apply, what kind of jobs does the government offer, what career paths are available, and will you fit in may be on your mind.

AFFIRM’s annual Federal IT Career Workshop will walk you through the answers to the questions – some of which might surprise you – and open the door to a career with the Federal government.

Join AFFIRM for this workshop as you navigate your path through a career in government.

Learning Objectives:

  • Explore programs developed to encourage college graduates to enter government service including the Pathways program that connects students from high school through post-graduate school with career development opportunities.
  • Review the benefits of working for the government including loan department forgiveness, pay equity, flexible work hours, and other work/life enrichments.
  • Learn about the variety of missions and positions available that inspire applicants from technology jobs in law enforcement to research in healthcare to travel to the moon.
  • Discuss programs that encourage diversity, equity and inclusion in government hiring such as the Department of Labor’s Workforce Recruitment Program.
